Plan a Teddy Bear Picnic With Quinte Parents!

Have the kids hit you with the “We’re Bored” yet? Well here is something that you can plan to keep them occupied for at least one afternoon. PS: This list of 10 Perfect Picnic Spots in Bay of Quinte is a great place to start your planning! You can also check out the full list of Quinte Conservation areas to find one located close to home.

Plan your own Teddy Bear Picnic

1. Have the kids grab their favourite Teddy Bear for the day’s activities.

2. Think of the theme when planning the food you will take. If your kids are old enough to help in the kitchen get them involved in the preparation as well. Here are some ideas but be sure to add in your own – we like to head to our area’s many farm stands for inspiration!

3. Make your child’s favourite sandwiches and use a bear shaped cookie cutter to cut out bear shaped sandwiches – perfect for little fingers!

4. You can also toast some bread, butter it with peanut butter (or your child’s equivalent if you have peanut allergies) then use banana slices for ears and a snout. Then you can use raisins or chocolate chips (a nice treat) for the eyes and nose.

5. Our favourite Teddy Bear Trail Mix is a combination of Teddy Grahams crackers, marshmallows, cheerios or any of your child’s favourites.

6. Bear berries mixing your child’s favourite berries for a bear themed fruit salad.

7. Make this cute Binoculars set. Have fun with your Teddy Bear Picnic. I hope this kept the kids busy for at least one afternoon! You can also make a map for the kids to follow to the park and borrow the Teddy Bear’s Picnic book from the library or search your local book store.

Lyrics for the Teddy Bear’s Picnic:

If you go out in the woods today

You’re sure of a big surprise.

If you go out in the woods today

You’d better go in disguise.

For every bear that ever there was

Will gather there for certain, because

Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic.

Picnic time for teddy bears,

The little teddy bears are having a lovely time today.

Watch them, catch them unawares,

And see them picnic on their holiday.

See them gaily dance about.

They love to play and shout.

And never have any cares.

At six o’clock their mommies and daddies

Will take them home to bed

Because they’re tired little teddy bears.

If you go out in the woods today,

You’d better not go alone.

It’s lovely out in the woods today,

But safer to stay at home.

For every bear that ever there was

Will gather there for certain, because

Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic

CHORUS

Every teddy bear, that’s been good

Is sure of a treat today

There’s lots of wonderful things to eat

And wonderful games to play

Beneath the trees, where nobody sees

They’ll hide and seek as long as they please

Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic!
