Quinte Symphony has an exciting season coming up. With an emphasis on musical experiences that appeal to audiences of all ages, the symphony is incorporating young musicians whenever possible. They are also putting on concerts in Trenton and Port Hope as well as three locations in Belleville with a view to attracting a wider audience base.
The orchestra’s new conductor Dan Tremblay is passionate about the value of music in children’s development, “Reading music, playing music or singing has been proven to stimulate the whole brain to create new neural connections which can be used for other learning. The creativity developed through music studies helps children do better in school and in their future careers.”
The new concert season begins with a “Tribute to the Brave”, Sun. Nov. 15, at 2:00 pm at the National Air Force Museum of Canada in Trenton. Admission will be by donation, and the Quinte Symphony are hoping for $8000 in donations to cover their costs. In a facility with 800 seats, this means that if all attendees donate $10, the goal will be met! In addition to the Symphony, attendees will also see featured performances by The 8 Wing Concert Band and the 8 Wing Pipes and Drums.
The annual Christmas Concert will be performed on Sun. Dec.19 at 2:00 pm in the auditorium of Centennial Secondary School in Belleville. The Symphony will honour Rotary Music Festival triple award winner, Tabitha Savic by having her perform as a soloist at both the Christmas concert and during their Kidstock concert in May. The 16 year old musician is an accomplished singer, pianist and harpist.
“Vacation in Europe” Sun. Feb 28, at 2pm will be held in Centennial School in Belleville, featuring a selection of music to help beat the winter blahs with dreams and memories of European musical adventures.
The season will end with three concerts in May. There will be two combined concerts with the Northumberland Orchestra and Choir. The first of the two concerts on the theme “Pictures at an Exhibition” will be held on Sat. May 7 in Port Hope and at Bridge Street United Church in Belleville on Sun. May 8, both concerts at 2:00 pm.
The following week, the Quinte Symphony will be performing for the first time at Kidstock on May 15 a five day event organized by the Quinte Children’s Theatre at the Maranatha Church in Belleville.
Dan Tremblay teaches Trumpet, Brass and Percussion at Queens University and plays trumpet regularly with six orchestras in Eastern Ontario and Quebec. He was appointed as the new conductor for the Quinte Symphony this summer on the retirement of Gordon Craig who had directed the Symphony for 25 years. Tremblay is delighted with the talent and dedication of the Quinte Symphony members, a combination of professional musicians and talented amateurs from around the region who honed their musical skills under the leadership of Gordon Craig.
Regular tickets to Symphony concerts are $25, $20 for Seniors and $10 for students. Each adult or senior purchasing a ticket can bring in one child under 12 per performance for free. Tickets are available at the Quinte Arts Council Office in Belleville, on the Quinte Symphony‘s brand new website with Paypal or Credit Card, or at Sam’s at Quinte Mall. Season’s tickets are $60 for adults, $50 for seniors and $30 for students – a savings of 20% on the per-concert cost.
