We turned the page in the Discovery Guide once again and landed upon the Bay of Quinte team! We market tourism and resident attraction for the region and are thrilled to share our passion for the BoQ with others—but how did we all come to be working for the Regional Marketing Board in the first place?

Why did you choose to live/work in the Bay of Quinte?
My wife and I wanted to move out of the city and find better work-life balance. We love living in a rural area where you get to know everyone’s name and become involved in building a wonderful sense of community. The spaces between us are so much bigger than the city but we feel much closer to our neighbours than we ever have.
It seems these days that most people end up in careers unrelated to their degree/diploma. What is your educational background?
I originally went to university for Business Administration but ended up with a degree in Communications and a minor in Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier in my hometown of Waterloo, ON. It took me a bit longer to finish than most, spending the last two years of university only part-time because I had decided to tour with my band at the time.
How has your education and previous work experience informed your work within tourism and marketing?
It’s interesting how things come full circle. At first, I honestly thought my degree wasn’t going to be very useful and was pretty much a fallback since I wanted to work in the music industry. But, 20 years later, my instincts were somehow right and I use elements of my Communications and Psychology backgrounds quite a bit now that I work in Business and Product Development for our tourism marketing team.

What does a weekend in the BoQ look like for you?
How lucky are we to live in a region where everyone wants to vacation, right? A perfect Saturday is spent at the farmers’ market grabbing a breakfast sandwich, fresh veggies and catching up with friends. Then we pack a lunch, the dog and some local cider in the car and head to one of the many amazing beaches to waste the day away in the sun.
