An interview with young entrepreneur Rebecca Reeves of Rebecca Reeves Photography.
Describe your business.
Short answer, I am a professional photographer. But really, I have an undeniable love for chasing sunsets, natural light, candid moments and laughter. I strive to create a connection with each client I work with to leave a lasting memory with them. More than being a business owner, I strive to also to empower people and give them timeless moments to cherish.
What brought you to the region?
I grew up in Colborne, the tiniest of tiny towns, and spent so many of my days in Belleville. Once I completed high school, we moved to Belleville and I quickly realized this was where I wanted to plant my roots. I love Belleville for so many reasons!
What makes the Bay of Quinte a good fit for your business?
THE PEOPLE! There is no place like the Bay of Quinte. It not only has a picturesque landscape, but the people here are just so kind and beautiful—inside and out.
What was the hardest thing about starting a business?
Proving myself. We are in a world where there is no lack of professional photographers; heck, I am great friends with a few in our area alone! It’s taken me a while to find my ‘vibe’ and be content to say no if a certain project doesn’t fit my feel. Being sought out for my style and talent is such a beautiful thing!
What advice do you have for entrepreneurs in the area?
Giving up is easy but persevering feels better. If you’ve found something that sets your soul on fire, fuel it because if you hustle everyday to make that dream you can absolutely obtain it—and it’s so worth it!
What surprised you about starting a business in a smaller community?
How close I would be become with my “competition.” I love seeing others succeed too, and when it comes down to it, we are all in this together (and I love that!).
Describe your perfect day off.
A day at the beach with my family. I have an incredibly supportive husband, two toddlers who keep me busy and the sweetest Yorkie. Spending my days with them fills my heart.
What’s your secret to surviving winter?
There are actually two things: one, that I love outdoor (mild!) winter photography, and two, that I can edit INDOORS with a tea, Netflix and blanket.
If you were to have one word tattooed on you, what would it be?
Live.
