An interview with Jessica Saint-Dic of SaJess Events.
Describe your business.
SaJess Events is an event planning business that specializes in curating beautiful, stress-free weddings and events in the Bay of Quinte area, Prince Edward County and beyond. We turn ideas into beautifully unforgettable moments!
What brought you to the region?
I moved to the area straight from Haiti a little over 7 years ago. I went to Loyalist College and did not know that I would be here to stay!
What makes the Bay of Quinte a good fit for your business?
It is beautiful, there are many talented and passionate vendors around to collaborate with, and it is quickly becoming a wedding destination for couples looking for a one-of-a-kind setting for their special day. We are here for it!
What was the hardest thing about starting a business?
For me, the hardest thing about starting this event planning business was the famous “imposter syndrome”. I kept putting things off, and second guessing every move because of the lack of this type of service in the area. But, I am glad that I overcame this phase!
What advice do you have for entrepreneurs in the area?
Always strive to remember why you started. Focus on watering your grass, invest in yourself, in your business – in due time, you will reap what you sow. Put in the work! You add value to this community.
What surprised you about starting a business in a smaller community?
My event planning services are needed and very welcome! I learned to not be afraid to start.
Describe your perfect day off.
Ideally, the perfect one starts around 9:00 AM. It involves a bit of my everyday routine such as prayer, singing and dancing to music, a hot shower. There is at least one thing I am looking forward to: driving to a nearby city, a late afternoon walk at Zwick’s Park, starting/finishing a good book, cooking a new dish or my favourite–going grocery shopping, catching up with family/friends.
In other words: it is not rushed, it is relaxing, full with a little fun and happy moments.
What’s your secret to surviving winter?
Peppermint everything, except chocolate. Thigh high boots, chili whenever possible, and choosing daily to accept whatever comes with little to no complaint. If I have to shovel today, then so be it, we are one day closer to warmer days (and wedding season!).
If you were to have one word tattooed on you, what would it be?
Beloved. I may call one of my children that! I will let you know in a few years lol
