Bringing BaSkateBowl to Belleville

FRESH AND FUN

Calling all aspiring Tony Hawks and Michael Jordans… this one’s for you! Belleville’s basketball and skateboarding communities just got a sweet new addition, the Mentos BaSkateBowl. This outdoor sporting facility fuses a basketball court with a skating bowl to create an entirely new space where never-seen-before tricks are certainly encouraged.

YES TO FRESH

Belleville’s Kiwanis Skatepark on Moira Street E received a pretty wicked upgrade (if we do say so, ourselves) with two brand new basketball nets and a slick blue colour scheme. The renovation was introduced through the Mentos “Yes to Fresh” campaign, an initiative that encourages young people and families to get outside and be active, following the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Councillors Sean Kelly, Paul Carr, Chris Malette, Garnet Thompson and Tyler Allsopp alongside Annie Guglia, Fay DeFazio Ebert and Adam Hopkins at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The BaSkateBowl ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by skateboarding extraordinaries Fay DeFazio Ebert, Adam Hopkins and Olympian Annie Guglia, who showed off their skills and broke in the outdoor arena. A number of Belleville city councillors were also in attendance on the September 29th opening to celebrate the new community facility.

ALL FOR FUN, FUN FOR ALL

Despite the all-star opening, the BaSkateBowl isn’t just a new hangout for local pros. Mentos and the City of Belleville hope the new skatepark will be a place for the whole community—where basketballers and skaters can connect, and young families can spend time together while learning a new sport.

And don’t worry if you haven’t nailed your kickflip or your slam dunk still needs perfecting. The park works as a traditional bowl and court, too, so those just starting out can work on their craft and traditionalists can continue playing the sport they love with no curveballs.

Head on down to the Mentos BaSkateBowl to begin making your mark on the extreme sport world. You never know when the Harlem Globetrotters will be recruiting their next player… sinking a basket while on a skateboard seems like a sure way to land yourself a spot on the team!
