Healthy Communities: Belleville Bike Month 2015

Belleville Bike Month Quinte Conservation Bay of QuinteGet your helmet ready, lace-up your shoes, take your bicycle out of the garage and prepare to enjoy various active events in Belleville throughout the month of June.

“This is a time to bring attention to the importance of creating community environments that support and encourage people to bike more through municipal policy and infrastructure,” says Tanya Hill, Health Promoter with Hastings Prince Edward Public Health. “A bicycle-friendly community not only provides residents with opportunities for physical activity, but also allows those without cars to travel around the city easier and contributes to a healthier environment with cleaner air.”

You can get involved by taking the Commuter Challenge and promote active and sustainable commuting in your workplace. This friendly competition between workplaces celebrates active and sustainable ways of getting around. Cyclists can also participate by sharing their #BellevilleBikeSelfie throughout May and June, and join in on community events like the Bike To Work Breakfast and Glow Ride to get connected with other cyclists in the area.

People are encouraged to make a commitment to at least one sustainable commute to work from May 31 to June 6 and receive a chance to win fabulous prizes. The winner of the workplace challenge is declared at the end of the week to the workplace with the highest percentage of healthier commuters.
