Ang's designs can function as a plant pot or candle holder. Concrete and Vines. How many of us creatives (and non-creatives for that matter) have said these words: “I could totally make that”? My hand is up. Waaaayyyy up. But how many of us actually make the things we love? Well, Ang Payne does.

She admittedly loves concrete and decor, and when she can’t find the decor she wants, she makes it herself with concrete. Fist bumps all around.

We’re talking about concrete planters. of course. If you’re into design and have an Instagram account, you’ll know this trend very well. It’s subtle, has texture and screams modern contemporary. What’s not to love, right? If we’re speaking your language, you’ll want to follow @concretevines.

A row of concrete skull plant pots on a table. The mini-planters had us at hello, and we can’t decide whether we like the
super-smooth or the rustic versions better. Has a succulent ever looked so perfect? We think not.

Word travels fast in this tight-knit community with young entrepreneurial spirit blossoming at every turn, and it wasn’t long before Ang had friends and then strangers asking, “Can you make some for me?” Order by order her business grew. Legitimate moulds replaced stacked Tupperware containers, and in less than a year her “very beginner-ish” business went a long way, all the way to a 100-unit order from a local flower grower.

A variety of Ang’s designs laid out on her kitchen table.

It’s super supportive here.

Buying local is a no-brainer, and a community of small start-ups is visibly forming. What’s next for Ang and her love for concrete? Why, counter tops, of course. Talent attracts talent, and her husband has a knack for building and design. Stay tuned for more as we follow Ang and her emerging partnership.
