WHEN INSPIRATION STRIKES
Or the lightning, whichever comes first. Justin Anderson continues to share his snapshots of our region at night, this time with a late-night trip around Quinte West.
TRENTON GREENBELT
“A photo of Norampac from the Trenton Green Belt Conservation Area. I knew a storm was coming in and I could hear it, but I didn’t expect this. I took this photo with a two-second shutter speed with my tripod down low on the rocks. Following this photo—about six seconds later—I was in my car!”
QUINTE WEST LIBRARY + CITY HALL
“Quinte West Library and City Hall with the moon. I shot this photo in multiple exposures.”
FIRE DEPARTMENT
“A special thanks to the Quinte West Fire Department for letting me take this photo. Yes, the gang even opened the door and turned on the lights for me!”
THE CLOCK TOWER
“Downtown Trenton and “The Trenton Tower” as I call it. The clock tower is a symbol of downtown Trenton, it has always been there and is well photographed. I don’t shoot this way a lot. I love the technique and the art of long exposure and what moving light does within the frame (it’s a form of light painting). You always learn when it comes to photography; when looking back at this photo I feel that I should have used a ND filter or a light polarizer. I’m still happy with the image.”
OLD BANK CAFE
“This was the first photo I took in this series. And I knew I wanted to get this photo in Frankford at the Old Bank Cafe. I love this old building at the corner of Trenton Street and Mill Street; FYI, you have to try the Amaretto and pistachio latte!”
TRENT PORT MARINA
“I took this photo from the Trent Port Marina. To get this photo I shot with multiple exposures and then converted into HDR (Medium). I think if there were some clouds in the sky this photo would pop. Amazed that I caught some stars in the photo considering the light pollution.”
TRENTON SKATE PARK
“The Trenton Skate Park at Centennial Park. I love the graffiti art. This was a photo I knew I wanted to take and tried four nights in a row to get. There were too many kids in the park at 11 pm, so I waited until 1 am. This is a photo shot in bulb mode on my camera. To achieve this I locked the shutter open with my remote shutter, and walked around the bowl with my cell phone light on and pointed it back at the camera. When I got back, I unlocked the shutter and BOOM: this is the photo you get!”
THE VETERAN SKYWAY
“A calm night at Fraser Park with a view of the entrance to the Trent Severn Waterway. Someone needs to change a couple of light bulbs if you look closely!”
