An interview with young entrepreneur Mika Henry of Mika Communications.
Describe your business.
Mika Communications offers modern, unique social media consulting services. Creating content to allow businesses to better connect with their audience.
What brought you to the region?
Family. My parents grew up here and my entire family is in the area. It feels good to be surrounded by love and support at this stage in my life.
What makes the Bay of Quinte a good fit for your business?
The Bay of Quinte is full of opportunity. Many entrepreneurs here can benefit from a little extra push on social media!
What was the hardest thing about starting a business?
You really don’t realize all the work that goes on behind the scenes, until you’re trying to fill the shoes of the business owner. However, hard work always pays off in the end.
What advice do you have for entrepreneurs?
Go for it. There is nothing you can’t accomplish if you genuinely try and put your best foot forward. It’s such a good feeling to do what you love every day.
What surprised you about starting a business here?
I’m from the smaller community of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, and the networking opportunities available for entrepreneurs here surprised me.
Describe your perfect day off.
I sleep in. Make breakfast. Catch up on one of the books I’ve been putting off. Hit the gym. Take my dog for a walk. Then relax with a good rom-com on Netflix. Simple, but satisfying!
What’s your secret to surviving winter?
Staying busy and in a routine so you don’t get bummed out about the cold. Also, flannel sheets… very important.
If you were to tattoo one word on your body what would it be?
Create.
